How many people have ever heard of Michigan Notable Books?

Last night’s annual MNB event in Lansing was a chance for me to learn about 20 books by Michigan authors or about Michigan subjects that I would otherwise never have known about.  I bought one and will probably pick up another one or two.  Authors are producing a rich Michigan literature ever year to add to the  gold vault.

I was there to participate in a panel discussion of biographers of Michigan governors.  My only regret about the evening was not encouraging the audience to buy a copy of Larry Glazer’s biography of Gov. John Swainson, “Wounded Warrior.”  Swainson’s life was an epic of tragedy and renewal and Larry tells the story faultlessly.
